Cibolo-Schertz-Universal City Independent School District (CSUCISD) serves elementary students with eight pre-kindergarten through fourth grade schools. All of the elementary schools exceed the state percentage for the STARR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) test and the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).

Green Valley Elementary School

Green Valley Elementary use 7 Habits daily in all areas of the school to achieve success every area of the school environment, as well as at home, and in the community. The 7 Habits teach children to set priorities, accept responsibility, and consider others feelings as they work with them. Additionally, Green Valley is a Continuous Classroom Improvement School with the goal of having 100% of their students meet or exceed district or state expectations in both math and reading. Green Valley Elementary School has a GreatSchools rating of 10 (out of 10), a student-teacher ratio of 17:1, and serves approximately 512 students.

Maxine and Lutrell Watts Elementary School

Watts Elementary, located at the corner of Deer Meadow and Dietz Road, just off of FM 3009 in Cibolo (210-619-4400), opened in the fall of 1999. Watts Elementary was named after Maxine and Luttrell Watts, who served as teachers for a combined total of over 85 years in the Lower Valley and Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD. The school has 685 students, a GreatSchools rating of 7, and a student-teacher ratio of 17:1. In addition to academic classes for grade pre-K through fourth grade, Watts offers gifted and talented, ESL, and special education programs.

Norma J. Paschal Elementary School

The motto for Paschal Elementary at 590 Savannah Drive, Schertz (210-619-4500) is “Dream Big, Work Hard!” Paschal Elementary is named in memory of Norma J. Paschal, an educator in the district for over 20 years. The campus, which opened in August of 2003, is nestled among the oaks and cedars of the hill country. A new wing was added to the school in the fall of 2004. Currently the school has 733 students, a GreatSchools rating of 7, and a student-teacher ratio of 17:1.

G. Wiederstein Elementary School

The school is named after Mr. Otto G. Wiederstein (1890-1962), a teacher and principal. The original school was built in 1957 and is located on Schlather Street in downtown Cibolo. Its original school name was Cibolo Junior High School. Prior to 1967, the cafeteria wing and office were constructed and the school became the district's 6th grade campus. In 1969, the school became O.G. Wiederstein Elementary School, serving students in grades K-5. Five years later, the library wing was added. In 1990, a wing was constructed at the back of the school. In 2006, a school bond was passed to rebuild Wiederstein with completion of the new campus in 2008. O.G. Wiederstein is currently located at 171 Borgfeld Road, Cibolo (210-619-4550).

Wiederstein Elementary School has a population of 782 students, a student-teacher ratio of 18:1 and a GreatSchools rating of 8 out of 10.

Rose Garden Elementary School

SWCrop-galleryrosegardenRose Garden Elementary, located at 506 North Boulevard in Universal City (210-619-4350) serves 867 students with a student-teacher ratio of 17:1. Built in 1961, Rose Garden Elementary School features a cafeteria, gymnasium, library media center, sports field, computer and science laboratories, administrative offices, and art and music rooms. It supports an after-school care program sponsored by the YMCA. The school provides an ESL (English as a Second Language) program, and gifted and talented education classes. In addition, it provides membership to Communities in Schools, one of the largest student dropout prevention organizations in the United States.

 

Schertz Elementary School

Schertz Elementary SchoolUpon entering Kindergarten at Schertz Elementary, parents and students make the commitment to enroll in the Dual Language Program through 6th grade. Wilder Intermediate offers the Dual Language Program to students who were previously enrolled at Schertz Elementary School. The goal of the program is to empower students to become bilingual, bi-literate, and bicultural as they develop language proficiency in Spanish and English.

In 1952, the original Schertz Elementary School was built. The campus went through many additions and renovations, through the years. In 2009, the replacement campus was dedicated at the original location at 701 Curtiss Avenue in Schertz. Nearly all of the original construction from 1952 has been demolished.

John A. Sippel Elementary School

Sippel Elementary School at 420 Fairlawn Avenue in Schertz (210-619-4600) is the largest elementary school with has 962 students, equally divided between male and female students, a student-teacher ratio of 16:1 and a GreatSchools rating of 7. In addition to the school has a program for gifted students as well as an ESL program. After school care is provided by the YMCA.

 

Cibolo Valley Elementary School

The newest elementary school in the district, Cibolo Elementary began serving students in the 2015/16 school year with 512 students. Since the school is so new, there are no statistics available about testing. The campus has a cafeteria, computer lab, an ESL teacher, library, and offers music, physical education, a reading specialist/dyslexia teacher, bilingual interventionist, and a gifted and talented program.

The school is located at 4093 Green Valley Road, Cibolo, and can be reached at 210-619-4700.

Many of the schools in the SCUISD are named after educators, an indication of the respect the district has for those who educate their children. The teachers are some of the highest paid educators in Texas. This brings quality educators to the schools and helps account for the excellent education provided students. The vast majority of parents rank the elementary schools at five on a five-point scale. Even those who make negative comments still mention positives as well.
