Schertz: How Our City Ranks On National Lists

As one of San Antonio's most popular suburbs, Schertz has been recognized on national lists for many things.  Since there is so much to love about Schertz, we thought it would be fun to explore some of the lists that the city has been recognized on!

How Schertz Measures Up

Schertz ranks highly among many magazines in a number of important areas:

  • Ranked 40th out of 100 small towns in America by CNN Money in 2007.
  • Ranked in the top 50 top small towns in America by in Money Magazine in 2009.
  • Ranked in the top 10 in terms of affordability by Movoto, 2013.
  • Ranked as one of the safest places to live in Texas by Safewise, 2013.

Schertz was also ranked as one of the quickest growing small towns in Texas (5th) and ranked 5th on NerdWallet’s list of home ownership.

Looking at Sperling’s Best Places, Schertz also comes out on top of many other rankings.

Best place for military people to find civilian work: Schertz ranked number 5 for small towns to which military retirees can move to in order to find civilian work. This ranking was based on factors including:

  • The number of businesses owned by veterans
  • Affordability
  • Availability of military related skills jobs
  • The rate of unemployment

Best rested cities: A bit of an odd category,  Schertz ranked number 8 in this score. Perhaps it is due to the fact that the crime rate is low and the financial aspect of living in Schertz is a little less stressful than other cities due to its below average cost of living!

Most romantic cities: Schertz scored number 31 on the list of most romantic cities in America for baby boomers. Baby boomers are considered to be people that are aged between 46-60. Residents of Schertz enjoy dining out and many people take time out at least once a week to romance each other over a special dinner.  The rankings were based on the following criteria:

  • Jewelry sales
  • Chocolate sales
  • Flower sales
  • Dancing studios
  • Number of good restaurants
  • Divorce rate in the city
  • Marriage rate in the city

Fiscally fit cities: Given that not even half of the households in America are fiscally fit, it’s good to know that Schertz ranked 33 on this extremely important list. Fiscal fitness was ranked on insurance coverage, quality of life, and investments. Even though many cities are featured on this list, the research still revealed that many people still do not have insurance, nor do they invest enough money.

Based on the above findings, it is clear that Schertz is certainly a nice place to live. And of course, at The Claus Team we believe that no ranking system can adequately describe the warmth and hospitality of this lovely place!
