The city of Schertz hosts numerous annual events. There’s SchertzFest, the Festival of Angels, the Schertz Sweetheart Court, and many, many more. Each one unique, fun and absolutely free to the public.
But one of residents’ all-time favorite events? That’d be the city’s 4th of July Jubilee, an annual Independence Day celebration that’s festive and fireworks-filled from start to finish. If you’re a resident of Schertz or the surrounding area, this is a must-see event you won’t want to miss.
Celebrate at the Schertz Jubilee
The Schertz 4th of July Jubilee dates back more than 40 years – all the way back to 1975, just before our country’s bicentennial. One of the state’s biggest tributes to our national holiday, the Jubilee includes live musical entertainment, a float-filled parade, a 5K walk and run, a family-friendly carnival, delicious local food and drink, lots of local vendors and craft booths, and of course, night-ending fireworks.
This year’s rain-or-shine event takes place at the city’s own Pickrell Park on Tuesday, July 4th. The Jubilee runs all day – from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m., culminating with everyone’s favorite event – the fireworks show. The 5K Let Freedom Run and Fun Walk will start bright and early, with registration kicking off at 8 a.m. The race begins at 9:15 a.m. at the Schertz Civic Center, located 1450 Schertz Parkway, and all are invited to take part to exercise, celebrate the holiday or just take a nice stroll with the family. Visit RaceEntry.com to sign up.
At 9:30, the Star-Spangled Spectacular Parade will get started, showing off the city’s best schools, teams, businesses, bands and residents all in festive and fun floats. There will also be a carnival, complete with rides and games for all ages, and dozens of craft, business, and food and drink vendors. They’ll all be on hand to entertain guests, fill their shopping bags and fuel them up for a day full of fun. (If you want to participate as one of these vendors, just email firstname.lastname@example.org for information on how.)
Live entertainment will go on throughout the day, starting with a watermelon eating contest at 12:45 p.m. Reserved for the kiddos, anyone from ages 5 to 18 is welcome to take part (prizes will be offered!) After the contest, musical act Bonzo Crunch will hit the stage at 2 p.m., followed by Clifton DeLeon at 3:30 p.m., The Jesse Stratton Band at 5:30 p.m., and Made in Texas at 7:30 p.m. Finally, a dazzling fireworks show will close out the night.
Other July 4th Events

- Stars, Stripes & Lights – From June 30 through July 4, the Downtown River Walk will play host to a star-spangled celebration. With red, white and blue luminarias lining the river, it’s the perfect way to honor Independence Day, while also enjoying some food, fun and festivities with the family.
- Coca-Cola July 4th Fest – On July 2, 3 and 4, Six Flags Fiesta Texas will host the Coca-Cola July 4th Bring a coke to get early park admission, and see nightly fireworks displays from anywhere in the park.
- SeaWorld Fourth of July Celebration – SeaWorld San Antonio is hosting a few different celebrations for the holiday, starting with nightly patriotic fireworks displays and pyrotechnics. There’s also an all-you-can-eat Fourth of July Fireworks Picnic and a Bayside Beer Garden Fireworks Reception.
The City of San Antonio is also hosting an official July 4th celebration at Woodlawn Lake Park, and the Alamo will also host festivities. The Alamo’s event will include music, rifle demonstrations, free food, photo opportunities with living history actors, and live readings of the Declaration of Independence.
